English name: The Brick Dutch name: bruine herfstuil Lettercode: AGROCIRC Wingspan: 33-38 mm Day-active: no Description: An autumn species flying during september and october. The eggs are laid near the buds and overwinter. The eggs hatch in spring.The joung larvae feed on the catkins. Once the catkins fall on the ground, the larvae feed on many different low growing plants or continue feeding in the top leaves. The larvae (when fully grown) spin a loose cocoon in the ground in which they pupate in late summer (praepupa). Foodplants: willow (Salix) poplar (Populus), elm (Ulmus) and low growing plants. |
